From a Russian blogger comes a stinging critique of America under President Obama. Stanislav Mishin originally published this on his blog, Mat Rodina, but I’ve linked to Pravda’s reprint of it (the printer-friendly version, to spare you some grossly immodest ads).

Those who don’t think we’re living in a socialist oligarchy might want to look at this outsider’s view. A few lines are worth reproducing here:

First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite tv dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their “right” to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our “democracy”. Pride blindth the foolish.

Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different “branches and denominations” were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the “winning” side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the “winning” side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America.

The gentleman is evidently Russian Orthodox, as the last reference and his earlier one to to “Holy Russia” would indicate. When Russia will again truly be “Holy,” of course, will be when she is reengrafted into that Church outiside of which neither holiness nor salvation can be found. Regardless, this man’s observations are spot-on, and only a blindfolded jingoism would reject them because they come from a Russian.

What he says seems true but for him to say what he does about American churches is like the pot calling the kettle black, after all, wasn’t the Russian Orthodox Church pretty much the handmaiden of the Communist party?

Justin, that is an astonishing statement. The Russian Orthodox Church was heavily persecuted by the atheistic Communist party before the second World War and under Krushchev, with only Stalin for patriotic reasons when under attack from the Nazis and Gorbachev under Glasnost allowing it some freedoms. Where have you got the idea that it was a “handmaiden of the Communist Party” from?

Perhaps I just shot from the hip so to speak and made a blanket statement. It’s wrong but I do that sometimes. I’ll look into it and come back with something more substantive if I should find it.
