Yes, I agree, the teaching against contraception is part of the second category, truths de fide tenenda. Infallible and irreformable. Maybe not explicitly or directly contained as a separate truth in the Publically Revealed deposit of faith, but nevertheless infallibly taught as logically following from the general revelation on chasity and on the ends of human sexuality.

Statements of the third category are reformable. However, the Church's teaching on birth control is infallible. I do not agree with Dr. D'Ambrosio on this point. I think he's wrong, and seriously wrong. This teaching is something so clearly taught by all tradition as to be irreformable, by virtue of the ordinary and universal magisterium.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify this.

Is i t correct to say that teaching of the third category, which requires "religious assent of mind and will," is not infallible and, therefore, is reformable?

If the above is true, then, since you quote Dr. D'Ambrosio without question, that "the Church’s condemnation of artificial birth control" is in this category, does that mean the Church's condemnation of artificial birth control is reformable?

Thank you
Don
